New Beginnings
I chose my major the day I sat in front of a computer during orientation. With no previous thoughts about it, I clicked Journalism, and I was off. A swift and simple decision to start a new journey. Over 6 years of internally flip-flopping, I never changed my major, and I graduated from UCF with that journalism degree. I chased a bigger paycheck for years, focusing less and less on the subject of the degree I earned. But as my 30th birthday approached, I crumbled. My so-called success felt more like a chore, anchoring me to a place I had never actually sought: the corporate world. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve learned how to survive in that space. But it was to the detriment of my mental health, my most pure joy. My inner child kicked and screamed and dragged me to the pond to take a good hard look at myself, and in some ways, I wasn’t a big fan of what I saw.
So here we are, with me honoring my childhood dream of pursuing music journalism. The funniest part? I’ve already dabbled in it before. My journalism degree proved valuable in many ways, and combined with my obsession with all things music and my interest in culture, I bring a unique perspective to the space where I first found a home away from home. My number one goal is to shine a light on the stories of the ones who make our toes tap, who make us want to jump up and dance, and who express themselves so intimately through music. In a way, this is like my love letter to the community that makes me feel the most alive.
